IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GUESTS

Once Upon a Bus is a dedicated educational storytelling space. Our objective is to deliver high-quality, engaging sessions that support literacy, attention, creativity and social development in a safe, focused and enjoyable environment. These house rules exist to protect the safety of every child and adult on board, to minimise disruption, and to ensure the educational value of each session is fully realised.

1. Nature of the activity

Once Upon a Bus is not a play bus or free-play environment. Sessions are structured storytelling experiences designed to be constructive, purposeful and educational. Behaviour expectations are similar to those in a classroom or library so that activities can be delivered effectively and every participant receives good value from the experience.

2. Safety, focus and controlled behaviour

Uncontrolled or disruptive behaviour is both unsafe and detrimental to the learning experience. For the safety of staff and all guests, and to allow the storytelling to unfold successfully, children are required to remain in their designated seating area and to focus on the group activity at a level appropriate to their age.

Sustained engagement, attention and self-regulated behaviour are essential. They enable children to absorb the narrative, language and learning objectives while maintaining a calm and productive atmosphere for the whole group.

3. Responsibility of parents, carers and accompanying adults

It is the responsibility of the accompanying adult to assess, before booking, whether a child is able to sit, listen and participate appropriately for the duration of the session. If safety or the educational experience of others is compromised, we reserve the right to ask the group or individual to leave. If you are unsure whether a session is suitable, please contact us in advance to discuss.

4. Hygiene and cleanliness

• Food and drinks are not allowed on board.

• Muddy shoes are not permitted on the bus.

• Large bags and pushchairs must be left outside of the bus.

• Children who are potty training must wear training pants. Accidents will incur cleaning costs.

5. Mobile phones

Please switch mobile phones to silent or flight mode during sessions. Phones can interfere with our audio-visual equipment and cause disruption.

6. Parking

Where on-street parking is required, please be considerate of local residents and avoid parking directly in front of neighbouring properties. Always remove valuables from your vehicle.

7. Adult participation

We strongly encourage teachers, carers and accompanying adults to take an active part in the session. Adult engagement helps children maintain focus, models positive behaviour and significantly increases the educational benefit for the whole group.

These rules are in place to safeguard every passenger and to protect the quality of the educational experience. When children are focused, engaged and well-regulated, the storytelling is more effective, the learning is deeper, and the session remains enjoyable for all.
