Storytelling in the Community with Once Upon a Bus and OUAB CIC
Once Upon a Bus loves taking stories beyond the school gate. Community events give children, parents and carers the chance to sit together, listen together, laugh together and share a story in the same space.
We do this because a love of reading and literacy grows strongest when it is practised at home as well as at school. When families join a session on the bus - or at a local gathering, they see how simple it can be to engage with, celebrate, and just enjoy, a good story well told; That shared experience is what we want our guests to take home, and then go on to share with others. Join us if you can...

Once Upon a Bus is a mobile storytelling experience that brings interactive storytelling workshops directly to schools and communities across Berkshire and the surrounding areas. Operating from a beautifully converted double-decker bus, Once Upon a Bus delivers immersive storytelling sessions that combine live performance, props, and creative engagement to inspire a love of stories and improve literacy in children.
Our storytelling bus visits primary schools, special educational needs settings, and community events, offering curriculum-linked storytelling workshops that make learning fun and memorable. Each session is carefully designed to develop language skills, imagination, and emotional understanding through high-quality, interactive storytelling experiences.
Based in Bray, near the historic Bray Studios, Once Upon a Bus draws inspiration from the area’s rich film and storytelling heritage while creating modern, engaging experiences for today’s children. We work with schools to deliver tailored storytelling workshops that support literacy development, boost confidence, and encourage a genuine love of reading.
As well as school visits, we run community storytelling events, holiday workshops, and teacher training sessions focused on the art of storytelling. Our mobile format allows us to reach children in both mainstream and special schools, making high-quality storytelling accessible to as many children as possible. Whether you’re looking for a storytelling bus for schools, interactive literacy workshops, or creative storytelling experiences for your community, Once Upon a Bus brings stories to life in a way that captivates children and supports their learning and development.
